We carried out an insurance rectification on a strata block in Willoughby, reinstating a brick column that a garbage truck had hit.
The first job was making the column safe. Plywood box surrounds went up around it while an engineer assessed the structure, which kept the damaged brickwork contained until someone qualified had looked at it. The engineer found the structure sound enough to rebuild the brickwork, so we reinstated the column using a blend of salvageable bricks and new ones. The whole job took two weeks in September 2024.
A column that takes a vehicle strike can look like a straightforward rebuild, but the engineer's sign-off on the structure is what decides whether the existing base can carry the new brickwork.
